The mission of the Fossil Ridge High School Band Program is to provide a quality music education to all students. Our goal is to develop quality through our focus on each individual performer. Research has shown that involvement in music activities has long lasting positive impacts on a student’s education and intellectual growth. Taking part in concert band, marching band, jazz band, small ensembles, and solo experiences are excellent opportunities that provides students with the life enriching experience of making music. Furthermore, through the band program, students will gain a sense of belonging, teamwork, time management, dedication, self-discipline, leadership, cooperation, and responsibility.
The Fossil Ridge High School Band program has developed a state and national reputation for excellence in performance in all areas, and has a well-rounded, comprehensive music education program that features an award-winning marching band, three concert bands, two jazz ensembles, several small ensembles, and a winter guard. All wind students perform in chamber ensembles during the second quarter of the year, and all percussion students participate in weekly ensembles in combination with their concert band class throughout the year, performing full-length concerts of traditional and contemporary percussion ensembles, mallet ensembles, and world percussion. Color guard students participate in Winter Guard and competing in regional competitions, regionals, and state. Fossil Ridge also offers students the opportunity to take innovative courses in Music Production & Technology, Music Theory & Composition and AP Music Theory. A large number of students take regular private lessons, including over 90% of the Wind Symphony students.

The Fossil Ridge Bands have consistently earned superior ratings at concert and jazz festivals, and both the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band have earned “Superior With Distinction” honors at the CBA State Concert Band Festival on multiple occasions including 2011, 2014, 2017, and 2019. In 2014, all three concert ensembles at Fossil Ridge earned straight Superior ratings at the CBA Regional Concert Band Festival. The Wind Symphony was selected to perform at the CMEA Clinic/Conference in 2012 and 2015, and the prestigious Music For All National Concert Band Festival in 2012 and 2016. The Fossil Ridge Band program has been nominated for the prestigious “Sudler Flag of Honor” from the John Philip Sousa Foundation, and was a 2014-2015 recipient of the “National Programs of Excellence Blue Ribbon Award” from the National Band Association.

The Fossil Ridge Marching Band has received numerous awards, and has been a consistent state championship finalist since entering competition in 2005, having earned “finalist” status in class 3A, 4A, and 5A. The Marching Band was the class 5A STATE CHAMPION in 2012, 2013, 2018, and 2019; the silver medalist in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017; the bronze medalist in 2010 and 2011.

CELEBRATIONS!

On Wednesday, October 30th the CBA Marching Committee approved the following proposal.

“We propose that due to cancellation of the 2019 State 4A and 5A Semi-Finals and Final Championship event, the 2019 CBA State Regional Qualifier Standings will be the official and final rankings for all bands in class 4A and 5A. All qualifying bands would receive the proper recognition, respective CBA banner, trophy, and medallions based on the regional rankings.”

Due to the CBA proposal, our Fossil Ridge High School Band has been recognized as the 2019 5A CBA State Champion! We are incredibly proud of the hard work, persistence and perseverance that our students have exhibited this season! Boo-Ya Grandma!!

We would also like to extend heartfelt appreciation to all our fellow 5A Bands on a spectacular season! We are honored to be a part of such a high achieving community of bands! Best of luck throughout the remainder of the year!

The Fossil Ridge High School Marching Band is excited for our first ever BOA performance next week! It will be the first time that Fossil Ridge has competed at the national level with the Marching Band. Thank you to PSD, FRHS Admin, FRHS Staff, our community, and to our incredible parents for your continued support! Sko' Ridge!
